Discussion questions:
The sermon offered ive words of application. For discussion in your group, consider practical ways you might grow in each of those words.
- May we regard marriage as the holy and sacred institution that it is. What are the signs/symptoms that we have a “low” view of marriage? What can we do, practically speaking, to build or maintain a “high” view of marriage?
- May we prefer obedience to self-fulfillment. Whether in marriage or otherwise, in what areas of your life are you most tempted to the path of self-fulfillment? (I.e., the path that will lead you to immediate happiness/pleasure/satisfaction.) How can you apply the gospel to your heart, so that you prefer obedience to self-fulfillment?
- May we walk in humility. How/why might marriage be an occasion for self-righteousness? How can we guard against this?
- May we nurture our children toward a high and holy view of marriage. What practical steps can we take to cultivate a biblical view of marriage among the children in our families and church?
- May we remember the gospel. In what ways has this conversation prompted you to consider again your need for the gospel?
