Hebrews 11:1-7

What does faith do?

  1. Believes with assurance (v. 1,3)

  2. Faith commends us as righteous (v. 4)

“And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.” Genesis 15:6

“You have come… to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”  Hebrews 12:22, 24

What does faith do?

  3. Pleases God (v. 5-6)

“Whether our acts are immoral, like stealing and lying and adultery, or whether our acts are moral like church attendance and community service, both may be abominable in God’s eyes if the heart is not right… The inner beauty of hoping in God, of trusting him for help and guidance, makes the eternal act beautiful. And if this faith is not here motivating the act the act is not pleasing to the Lord, it is sin.”  -John Piper

  • What are you celebrating in your life, work, faith, or family from this past week?

  • Can you remember a crazy question you asked your parents as a kid? Or, can you remember a crazy question you have been asked by a kid?

READ HEBREWS 11:1-7

  1. How does knowing that you are justified by faith alone, in Christ alone, shape your daily Christian walk? What are the areas of your life that you are not living in light of this good news?

  2. In verse 5-6, we see that in order to please God, we must be living and acting by faith. How can we tell the difference between serving from genuine faith versus from guilt, habit, or pride?

  3. Noah’s faith-filled actions led to him being an outsider in his day. In what ways does living by faith today still challenge or make us stand out from the world’s values?

  4. What is something in your life currently that will require great faith to pursue or accomplish? How can your Life Group support you in this?

  5. What would be one thing that you could do as a Life Group, or that we could do as a church body, that would require tremendous faith to pursue?
