READ EPHESIANS 6:5-9
The sermon said that all people will inevitably find themselves either “in authority or under authority.” Where do you currently experience each of those roles in your life? Which one do you find more challenging?
Paul calls servants to obey “as you would Christ.” How does viewing our work or daily tedious tasks as ultimately serving Christ change the way we approach them?
The sermon pointed out that “obedience can still be sinful” when it is accompanied by complaining or disrespect. Where are you most tempted to do the right thing with the wrong attitude?
Paul encouraged a change in perspective - from earthly to heavenly - for both the master and servant. For the servant, he reminded them about the heavenly rewards that await them. How does it encourage you knowing that God rewards humble servants for menial tasks?
Paul challenges the masters who are in authority to use their authority in healthy ways. What are some characteristics of biblical authority? Do you have any personal examples?
The sermon ultimately pointed to Christ as the perfect servant and the perfect master. How does Jesus’ example—and the fact that He has already perfectly fulfilled these roles—encourage you when you fail in your own work, service, or leadership?
