Ephesians - Week 5

Ephesians 2:1-10

LIFE GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  • Mother’s Day Version: As you reflect back on your relationship with your mom (or another significant mom figure in your life), what is one way the Lord blessed you in and through that relationship?

  • Alternate Version: Which feels more uncomfortable to you personally—depending completely on someone else, or feeling like everything depends on you?

READ EPHESIANS 2:1-10

  1. In verses 1-3, Paul says we were spiritually dead, enslaved, and under condemnation apart from Christ. Which of those descriptions feels most personally confronting to you? Why?

  2. The sermon described sin as a kind of “spiritual scoliosis,” where the heart curves in on itself. Where do you most clearly see that tendency in your own life right now? How can even good things (work, family, ministry, success, religion) become self-centered?

  3. Why is it hard for us to fully accept salvation as a gift of grace? In what ways do you find yourself still trying to “earn your place” in God’s house?

  4. Verse 10 tells us that we are “created in Christ Jesus for good works.” What are some specific opportunities God has placed in front of you right now to serve, love, encourage, or bless others? What keeps you from stepping into those works with joy and freedom?

  5. The sermon ended with Jack Miller’s phrase: “Cheer up! You are far worse than you think, and more loved than you ever dared hope.” Which side of that statement do you personally struggle to believe more deeply? How does this passage speak into that struggle?
