We All Need Healing
Does anyone have any prayer requests?
This is a question I pose to my life group each Thursday night around 8:30. It is one that you have probably asked or have been asked hundreds of times in your life. Yet, it is one with which I struggle lately.
In our life group, we ask the question hoping to give people an opportunity to share about what is going on in their lives. It is an open invitation for us to tell others about our current hurts, needs and struggles. It is a time for us to hear what the other people in our group are dealing with or having to face.
But, do we really believe in the power of Jesus to work in these requests and heal our hurts?
In Matthew 8:14-16 we read a great reminder of who Jesus is and how He ministered to the least of these while He was here. “When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.”
Did you catch that? Many were brought to Him and all were healed! Imagine what it would have been like to have been there. What if we knew Jesus was coming to town and He was healing people?
Somehow, I see the power of Jesus and watch as He heals others and I still can't open my mouth and admit that I need prayer and the touch of Jesus too. I work so hard acting like I've got it all together, that I struggle to step out of this never-ending, tiring act.
When I hear of a baby that is sick, I take them to Jesus.
When I hear of a family who lost their dad, I take them to Jesus.
When I hear of a single mother who can't provide for her young kids, I take her to Jesus.
When I see someone who is injured or facing surgery, I take them to Jesus.
When I feel like I screw up as a dad, I try to heal myself.
When I feel like I'm not quite making enough money, I try to heal myself.
When I'm not getting along with my wife, I try to heal myself.
When I recognize my own sinfulness, I try to heal myself.
While I am busy trying to heal myself, I forget that Jesus is still in the business of healing! He loves to take the broken and make them whole. He loves bringing dead things to life. All it takes is for us to recognize our need and go to Him. Would our prayer requests be different if we knew Jesus was available and that He would answer us like He did while He ministered on earth?
Well guess what…He is still available! So go to Him today and ask for His touch and healing in your life, because Jesus alone can heal us. It is only when we have experienced Jesus’ power in our own lives that we can lead others to true life in Him.
