Life in 2021: Life in the Gospel
We all, having trusted in Christ alone for our salvation, have a tendency to revert to some kind of performance-based relationship with God.
What is the one thing you do that allows you to feel slightly superior to other people? What do you count on to give yourself a sense of personal credibility?
What is the one thing in your life about which you feel inferior? About which you feel like a failure?
Martin Luther - “This [justification by faith] is the truth of the gospel. It is also the principal doctrine of all Christian doctrine…Most necessary it is, therefore, that we should know this article well, teach it unto others, and beat it into their heads continually.”
Three strategies for daily dependence upon the gospel:
- we need to watch our spiritual diets carefully
- we need to prioritize gospel-centered relationships
- we need to train our minds to command and recall gospel-centered biblical truth
2 Corinthians 5:21 - For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Psalm 103:12 - As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
Romans 5:19 - For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.
